Miles Construction. Sustainable Homes

Miles construction understands the increasing interest and focus on sustainable and energy efficient homes. The current debate around the leaky homes has highlighted the poor building practices of the past and an increasing need for air-tightness and moisture control within New Zealand homes so that our houses are kinder to the environment and healthier for their occupants.

Miles Construction is the first company in Canterbury to be building a house which utilizes the Pro Clima building system, a unique, globally proven system that guarantees measurable outcomes in airtightness and moisture control. New to NZ, this European technology, works by utilising the use of The Intello Plus product, an intelligent internal wrap, which prevents air movement through the building fabric. This greatly improves the energy efficiency of the home and ensures the long-term effectiveness of the insulation and the structural durability of the building by protecting it from moisture damage.

The Intello Plus wrap not only prevents air coming into the house, but interestingly includes a membrane that lets moisture out. The owners of this pioneering house in Christchurch have been able to reduce the number of heat pumps required from eight, down to just two. The amount saved in heat pumps means the client have not spent any extra money insulating their home.

We value the experience we gained by working on this project and are interested in working with clients and architects who share our interested in sustainable and energy efficient homes.
